About Us

Serving Our Neighbours
Sharing Christ's Love

“As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

House of Alms is a not-for-profit organisation working across the northern Gold Coast and Logan region. We started because we couldn't ignore what's happening around us any longer. The cost of living crisis is not improving, and it seems that there are so many people falling through the gaps between services — some are just one hard week away from the streets.

The dream began with supporting those experiencing homelessness, but the vision soon expanded once we realised how many people need support but don't quite fit the criteria. House of Alms wants to help everyone in the community that need support.

"Alms" is an old religious term for giving freely to those in need. It's a simple idea, and it's the whole model — meet people where they are, give real help without conditions, and treat everyone with the dignity they'd get in their own home.

We're faith-motivated and open to everyone. Support is never conditional on belief, background, or circumstance.

Our First Year

What we're focused on

These are the programs we're building in our first twelve months. No paid staff — the work is done by volunteers.

  • Pop-Up Op Shop

We're giving preloved items a new purpose! Our first fundraising initiative, with all proceeds aimed towards our Street Outreach Pilot Program.

  • Furniture & Household Assistance

Redistributing donated furniture, whitegoods and essentials — including delivery and flat-pack assembly for elderly people or those without support.

  • Food Assistance

Hampers for individuals & families. We will also be launching a three-month street outreach pilot while we assess community need and volunteer capacity.

  • Community Engagement & Events

We will continue to host fundraising activities and community-focused events alongside other NFP organisations and local business to reach the wider community.

We only take on what we have the capacity to deliver, so we don't let people down. House of Alms Limited (ACN 699 706 655) is a public company limited by guarantee; our ACNC charity registration is in progress.

Who Can Volunteer?

People from all walks of life

Whether you're retired, studying, working part-time, raising a family, or simply looking to give back to your community, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Values

Compassion

We see people before we see their circumstances.

Everyone who comes to House of Alms has a story. Whether someone is experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, loneliness, or simply needs a helping hand, we choose to respond with kindness, empathy, and love rather than judgement.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” — John 15:12

Humility

We serve, not to be recognised, but because Christ first served us.

We believe no act of service is beneath us. Whether we are cleaning a home, carrying furniture, sorting donations, or serving meals, we do so with grateful hearts.

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” — Mark 10:43

Integrity

We are faithful stewards of every gift entrusted to us.

Every donation and every opportunity to help is a gift from God. We are committed to honesty, transparency and accountability, so our community can trust that every contribution is used responsibly and with purpose.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” — Luke 16:10

Faith

Christ is the foundation of everything we do.

Our faith isn't simply part of House of Alms — it's the reason we exist. God calls us to love our neighbours, and that's exactly what we are here to do. We welcome and serve everyone with compassion, regardless of their beliefs or background.

“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Community

We believe no one should face hardship alone.

Communities are strongest when people care for one another. We seek to build genuine partnerships with local churches, businesses, organisations, and volunteers to create opportunities for people to both receive support and give back.

“Carry each other's burdens, in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Everyone Has Something to Offer

You don't have to be young, strong, or have lots of free time to make a difference

Maybe you're handy with tools. Maybe you love baking. Maybe you're great with computers. Maybe you enjoy gardening. Maybe you simply have a listening ear and a compassionate heart.

Whatever gifts God has given you, we'd love to help you use them to serve others.
